The course was offered to fourth and fifth-grade students by Maria Sleight, who assists in teaching English as a second language to TK students.
The after-school class offered students some basics in Spanish and gives them a head start to learning a second language.
Cami Stahl said she liked the class and now has the ability to at least share a few words with Spanish-speaking exchange students being housed by a relative.
"I can also say something to my brother and he won't know what I'm saying," she said.
Kenzee said she likes learning a new language and hopes to someday learn Swahili or French as well as Spanish.
Others said they just like being able to get a head start on learning a foreign language before they're able to take a class in middle school.
Sleight said she taught the students some basic words and phrases during the abbreviated course. They focused on colors and body parts, counting and names for places like the library.
A new after-school Spanish class will start Jan. 9 and continue through Feb. 1 at Page Elementary School. The class meets from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. Cost is $30. Students can register online at tkschools.revtrak.net, or by calling 269-795-5578.
