The streets from Lee to Page elementary schools were lined with families - nearly all dressed in black and orange and showing their TK Pride. Led by the marching band, the parade included many school teams and groups - each sharing their enthusiasm for this special event.
Members of the Thornapple Kellogg Alumni Association greeted visitors to Bob White Stadium. Guests filtered in early to watch the pre-game ceremonies of honoring Dan and Shelley Erb as the grand marshals and crowning the homecoming king and queen, Logan Goggins and Alexa Hoeksma.
Shelley is a retired first-grade teacher who served students at McFall Elementary for many years. Dan is a retired high school teacher and football coach. Both retired in 2010.
The Erbs made Middleville their home for more than 25 years where they raised their two children who are now both TK alumni. Today, the Erbs have five grandchildren.
As they walked across the football field, the game announcer introduced the Erbs. “Throughout the years, the Erbs have been dedicated supporters of the Thornapple Kellogg Public Schools. Their involvement, generosity and genuine love for TK have had a lasting impact on generations of students and families. Dan and Shelley have fond memories of their years at Thornapple Kellogg and say it will always hold a special place in their hearts.”
“They truly represent the hearts and spirits of our community and we are so grateful for all they have given to TK over the years. Dan and Shelley are honored to have been chosen for this prestigious recognition and tonight we are honored to celebrate them.”
After their recognition, the homecoming court was introduced and Hoeksma and Goggins crowned. The 2025 king and queen, Oliver Lietz and Avery Hagemann, returned for the celebration and to help crown this year’s couple.

During the game, TKHS cheer team members joined with nearly 200 young cheerleaders to keep the spectators fired up for the game. At halftime, the high school band took the field for a short program, then were joined by the middle school 7th and 8th grade band students for one selection and playing of the fight song to start the second half.
The Trojans defended their home field with a 63-6 victory over Ottawa Hills and continue their perfect season at 5-0.
